workin' on my fitness

do any of you struggle with fitness?
i know i do...

in fact, until recently, it wasn't even something i struggled with,
because i didn't care at all.

then i realized that i was kind of acting like a 15 year old boy
minus the exercise.

how do i know this?
because i have a 15 year old brother and our eating habits were almost identical.

it's scary, i know.
but i wasn't aware of how crazy i was acting...

then a few people (my boss, my mother, etc.) decided to point out the error of my ways.
& now i've been struggling trying to change.

going on walks, eating healthier meals, cutting back on sweets,
these are some of my new goals.

if this sounds familiar, please share your tips with me!
i need all the help i can get :)

the good, the bad, the ugly

dear hollywood,

today, i thought i'd take a minute to highlight some of the bizarre things going on right now.
(because i don't know about you guys, but is my favorite website)

let's start with the good:

the duchess being pregnant, obviously!
i woke up at 4 am to watch the royal wedding, and i will love this child as my own.

now for the bad (don't hate me):

tay swift is killing me! her music may be straight from heaven,
but she has got to stop dating 18-year-old boys. it's creepy and not helping her reputation.

& the ugly:

no shocker here... miley's new buzz cut is revolting.
and what is with that stripper outfit? it makes her look large, and she's really not!

so, there you have it.
my analysis of current events that affect my life in no way...
what more could you ask for?

happiness is...

happiness is, happiness is,
different things to different people!
that's what happiness is.

(yes, i stole that from a camp song, and no, i'm not embarrassed.)

these are a few things that happiness is to me...
  • eating too much at a hibachi restaurant
  • truly surprising someone you love
  • enjoying a nice dinner with coworkers
  • reading through a sky mall magazine
  • (& laughing hysterically at all the ridiculous things they sell!)
  • realizing it's 5:30 on a weekday and turning off my computer
  • watching LOST with my family
  • sleeping in on the weekends
  • eating delicious cookies even though i know i shouldn't
  • changing into comfy clothes (hello, nike shorts...)
  • walking on the beach - preferably w/ andrew ;)
  • & finding a blog that inspires me
...what is happiness to you???

get down on friday

dear friday, thank god you are finally here...
i was starting to think there was a never a time before i was in my office.
yeah, it's been a long week.

dear andrew, it's almost your birthday!
i'm so sad i won't be celebrating with you on monday :(
i promise we'll make up for it next weekend.

dear christmas, i can't believe you're back.
& so soon! weren't you just here twelve a few months ago?
either way, it's good to see you again.

dear kendahl, thank you for my wonderful new layout,
and for always inspiring me to post :)
...everyone go check out her blog!

dear victoria's secret fashion show, you are oh-so-entertaining.
but you also make me hate myself a little more every year...
it's cool though, i know i'm just as beautiful as those models! (haha, right?)

if i were a millionaire...

yesterday, i got to thinking about what i would do with $550 million.
because that's how much the florida powerball jackpot was worth!
my office went in on 66 tickets, so we thought our chances were pretty good.

unfortunately, we didn't win.

(that's how i felt towards the lottery announcer)

but, it wasn't a total loss, because it got my creative juices flowing.
what really would be my first move as a multi-millionaire?

i decided i would buy andrew and myself tickets to an island, pronto.
i would only use as much money as it took to survive there for a few months,
and i wouldn't touch the rest until i was done relaxing.

my next act of business would be to pay off my parents' house, my sister's college, etc.
you know, the grown-up boring stuff.

third, and finally, i would make sure to save/invest the rest somewhere safe,
so that i wouldn't have to work for the rest of my life.
sounds pretty nice, right?

...what would you do with the money?

weekend update

let's talk about my weekend. it was awesome!

a friend from school was in town, and we had another friend's wedding to attend.
the ceremony was at the same church where mine will be (ah!)
& the reception was at the country club of orlando.

here are some pictures:

as you can see, it was incredibly nice. the bride looked beautiful,
& the groom looked handsome. made me start thinking about my own wedding SO much!
which means, my next post will be the first (of many)
that actually go into detail about my plans.

i'm sure you all have been mildly curious dying to know more!

stay tuned, and i promise you won't be disappointed.

what's to come

just in case anyone was wondering, i thought i would write about my present & future
(and andrew's, of course!)

right now, i'm living at home in orlando, and working at mutual of omaha -
an insurance company. it's an 8:30 to 5:30 job,
and combined with living under the same roof as my parents & siblings again,
its a lot to handle! i'm doing my best though...
with a lot of help from after-work naps ;)

andrew, on the other hand, is still in school at UGA... he will graduate in may.
unfortunately, that means he is an 8 hour drive away from me.
i can tell you from experience: long distance is hard!
i've never done it before and i never want to do it again.

finally, after our wedding this summer (which is july 20, 2013)
we will be moving to austin, texas!!!
andrew interned at a technology company this past summer (called vmware)
and he was so great that they asked him to come back full-time!
i'm so excited to explore a new city with my hubby.

moral of the story:
i can't wait for this summer, and i hope you come along for the ride!

electric daisy carnival

this weekend i attended one of the most fun events i've ever been to:

electric daisy carnival

or, as everyone calls it... edc.

it was seriously amazing. imagine 3 different stages of ear-shattering dance music, 40,000 hippies in crazy costumes everywhere you turn, more light shows than i've ever seen before, & old-fashioned carnival rides on top of all of that.

let's just say i am definitely going back next year, and i'll be much more prepared. with headliners like tiesto, afrojack, & bassnectar, how could it be anything other than a great time? here are just a few of the pictures i took, and they don't even come close to capturing the entire atmosphere:

basically, i've got the festival bug, and i'm already starting to look into what i can go to next... if you have any ideas, please let me know! i always need partners in crime ;)

the beginning

so i figured the best way to begin a blog about my

wedding planning journey

was to introduce myself & the man who i will be lucky to one day call my husband...

i'm emma,

he's andrew,

& we are engaged!!!

this is our story (in a nutshell):

we both went to the university of georgia - go dawgs! we had mutual friends (he knew my freshman year roommate), but somehow we didn't meet until one fateful day in january of our junior year. we both decided to take a dinosaurs class (of all things)... we sat next to each other and became acquaintances, then class friends, and then real friends. everything changed for me, though, when we rode home to florida together for easter (both of our parents live here). he made me laugh almost the entire 8 hour drive, and that's when i realized i wanted to keep him around. we've been pretty inseparable ever since, but everything changed again this past september...

it was a friday night and i was expecting a family photo to be taken... i walked next door to our neighbor's picturesque backyard (thank you, mycoffs!) and there stood andrew. at first i thought he was going to be in the pictures, which would have been a surprise in itself, but when i looked around and saw flowers, cake, champagne... i knew something was up. right then and there he asked me to be his wife, and i immediately accepted, though it was hardly audible through my squeals of excitement! we had a wonderful night with our families, and thoughts of our future together quickly began to fill our heads.

the very next day, i started planning (it runs in my family) & this blog will be a chronicle of our journey to the aisle... there have already been some ups and downs, but i know it will all be worth it when the big day finally arrives. stay tuned for details!
