blogging hiatus (& a recap)

kendahl knew this day was coming...
and it hurts me a little bit to say, but...
i have decided to take a break from blogging.

it's nothing permanent,
it's just that my life is going to be pretty crazy this summer
(what with 3 weddings and moving across the country)
and i don't want blogging to be something i feel "obligated" to do.

but, before i go, i think it's only fair that i leave you all with pictures,
because my "vacation" last week really was amazing.

andrew and i flew to austin,
where we toured 4 different apartment complexes,
and very happily signed a lease on one!
so we will have a home come july 31 :)

we also had dinner with a few of his work friends,
and got very excited about our future in such an awesome city!

then we ventured back to athens for the second half of the week.
he had a bunch of cleaning/packing/moving stuff to do,
so i spent most of my days & nights with one of my very best friends... shelby!
(see also: i am a giant compared to her, it's cool)

i also managed to kayak down a river with andrew & some of his friends,
but unfortunately we don't have any pictures :(

basically, i'm exhausted after being away from my bed for a week,
but it was sooo worth it!

now i'm going to spend the next 40-ish days,
or less than 6 weeks,
in crazy wedding planning / dieting / traveling mode.

here goes nothing!

GUEST POST: mikaela rae

Hey everyone!
Thank you SO much Emma for having me guest post today!!! I am so incredibly jealous that you're in Austin right now!

So for those of you who don't know me, I recently got engaged to the most beautiful hunk of man flesh ever to walk planet earth (that guy down there), and we'll be moving to Austin next June!! So Emma and I will be neighbors.
talk about a small world

Annddd, thanks to Emma hopefully we'll have an idea of where to live and all the places the cool kids go - considering Stan will visit for the first time in July and I've never been.

On a serious note...

Emma was so sweet and asked me to guest post for her and I could not have been more happy to say yes! Stan and I are obviously going through some big transitions in life so I wanted to share with you some of the things that have been on our hearts lately.

This summer I've been trying to wrap my head around a pretty weird transition in my life...

This will be my last summer at home in New England.

I'm so blessed that my parents will eventually move down to the Austin area relatively soon after us so we won't be 9238409283 miles apart. BUT. The rest of my family, growing nieces and nephews, and my best friend will still be far away.

It's so strange to think that I'll have to resort to vacations, skype, random visitings, and other forms of communication to keep in contact with them. It's a whole lot different than driving down the street to have dinner or a game night.

About a year and a half ago Stan and I were headed back from his farm in North Carolina to our school in Virginia and stopped at an Applebee's on the way back for dinner. It was that night that he told me he had been praying for months if it was God's will for him to change his major from communications with the intention to become a youth pastor to communications for video production.

Stan's always been great with kids. As you can see, these Chinese kids love him.

(He was in China teaching english for a summer before our Freshmen year of college)

I always knew that Stan was great with kids and would make a fantastic youth pastor, but when he started talking about his dream company in Austin, Rooster Teeth, and all of the things they do that he loves I was convinced that was exactly where he needed to be.
It's one thing to love doing something, but the fact that he lit up when he started talking about it I knew that's where he needed to be and what the Lord gifted him to do.

Soo... all that to say, Stan and I then prayed for several months to make sure that is where God was directing us to go and finally made the decision to start looking in Texas (where both of us have never been, I might add).

A lot of people have told us that it's crazy to up and leave to another section of the country without having ever been there, with no job networking established, and even to buy a home where you've never been, but I know with all of my heart that God is going to provide for us and that in itself is SUCH an amazing feeling!

Both Stan and I love to travel and didn't ever intend to return home to where we grew up so we were wanting to branch out anyway, but I have to say, I never thought it would be this far away!

The thing that's been keeping me grounded through this transition is knowing that I have an amazing, gifted and strong man by my side and an even greater God in me.

I'd love for you to come visit and say hi!

GUEST POST: thomas house

As you may know, Emma is currently on a sort of vacation in which she and Andrew go to Austin to find a place for them to live.

And as you may have realized by now, this is not Emma.

And you would be correct.

This is NOT Emma. This is her less blonde, shorter haired, paler, more married, less tall friend, Haley.

I also have a blog.

But it sucks compared to this one, so don't even bother.

But enough about me, let's talk about Emma. And more specifically, what Emma did this weekend. And since this is Emma's blog I'm going to write about how much fun she had in her own words. (Kind of.)

Hi everyone!! This is Emma!! I just want you all to hear about the super fun time I had this weekend!!
On Friday it was my very last day of work ever for a little while, and that was awesome. What was less awesome was that my boss gave me an assignment 5 minutes before I was leaving and since I'm too nice to say no, I did it. I am an angel.

What Haley Would Have Done:

Anyway, after work, Seventies Mustache Andrew took me out on a hot date to the Melting Pot where I ate mine and his weight in fondue, because go big or go home, amiright?

It was also at the Melting Pot where we had a hilarious mix-up with our waiter about which Athens we had come from, but that's a story for another time. Probably.

And after the Melting Pot, I achieved a feat that is only rarely seen in the wild - I slept for 14 hours. I may have slipped into a coma around the 11 hour mark, but there's no way to know for sure. Fortunately, Andrew continued to check on my breathing, so it all worked out. I'm currently in talks with Guinness as I may have broken some kind of record.

Haley's Reaction:

And then, SATURDAY, was the absolute best day of my entire life, probably even better than my wedding which is coming up in some days, because I went over to my best friend in the entire universe who I love even more than Andrew and my Nike shorts, HALEY THOMAS'S HOUSE APARTMENT for a casual dinner party. And I literally mean casual.

This AMAZING dip that Andrew and I made. We forgot to take a picture before we pigged out.

We had a delicious dinner and these rocking drinks that looked really fancy and tasted like cotton candy. They're called Miami Vices (not to be confused with Miami Vice) and OH MAN. It's half Strawberry Daiquiri, half Pina Colada, all scrumptious. And our gentlemen friends probably consumed 85% of them. So not really sure what that's about.

Miami Vice, ladies and gentlemen.

After our 5-star meal, we had some equally phenomenal cake called Tres Leches. Ask Haley about it sometime. It rules.

That is the entire cake, not just one slice. So don't freak out.

Following stuffing our beautiful faces, we relaxed on Haley's Ikea furniture and talked about everything nerdy under the sun and I totally fit in because I am the Queen of the Nerds and it wasn't weird at all. And then we looked for ourselves on the Craigslist Missed Connections, and Haley got upset because she wasn't on there, and we had to assure her that she probably has been at some point and just please stop freaking out. (Easy.)

And Sunday is kind of a blank, I snapchatted a little and probably took a nap? There's no way to know. There was a big storm, and it made Haley not be able to be a tubing prodigy, so I guess there's that.

And now, I'm headed west to find my future love nest!! WOOHOO!!

Wow, Emma, that was awesome. I'm so glad you had such a killer weekend, and who knew you liked me so much?? (Me. I did.)

Good luck on your apartment hunt! And please still be my friend after this weird blog post!!

XOXO, Gossip Girl. Ugh. Sorry.

bachelorette weekend!

...not mine, don't worry
(that's coming up in july)

this weekend, i celebrated one of my oldest and bestest friend's
bachelorette weekend!

we went to siesta key and it was seriously amazing.
our suite/condo/resort had about a million rooms:

we got to spend much-needed quality girl time,
complete with bathing suits, sparkles, and hotel robes:

we got to enjoy sunsets, hot tubs with waterfalls, and long car rides
(okay, i didn't really enjoy that last one):

and most importantly,
we got to celebrate the beautiful bride!!!

basically, it was perfect and it makes being back in the office
(for my last week) even that much harder.

i hope you all had a great long weekend too :)

you should be watching SYTYCD

...and here's why:

SYTYCD (or so you think you can dance)
is, without a doubt, the most uplifting and incredible show on tv.
it literally changes my life every time i watch it.
i'm not exaggerating.

& i should probably work for them, but i don't...

1. it will make you laugh

2. it will inspire you

3. it will leave you in awe

& if those clips weren't enough to convince you,
just give one episode a try.
i guarantee it will bring tears to your eyes
and a smile to your face :)

one year ago

a year ago today, i started my job.
my first real job.

you know what's even weirder than the fact that it's been an entire year?
...the fact that next friday is my last day here.

it's a strange thing:
knowing that i'm going to walk out the door,
and not walk right back in on monday.

letting go of thoughts and responsibilities that i've had for so long now.

realizing that i'm not going to get another paycheck
for at least 3 months. (yikes!)

now, if you have no idea what i'm talking about...
let me fill you in.

i'm getting married on july 20th.
which is 2 months from yesterday.

i got engaged on september 21st.
which was 8 months ago today.

somewhere in between those times,
i realized i would have to quit my job,
because - OH WAIT - i'll be moving
halfway across the country after my wedding.

why is that, you may ask?
because my fiance got offered an incredible job
in austin, texas.
& naturally, we said yes!

anyways, i decided to go ahead and leave work
with enough time to finish planning our wedding this summer.

i am sooo looking forward to it!
but it is a little nervewracking to realize i'll be unemployed soon.

...thanks for sticking with me on this journey :)

who do you blog for?

do you blog for yourself?
or do you blog for your readers?
do you blog for your friends & family?
or is it a combination of all of the above?

lately, i've been asking myself this question...
everyone out there blogs for a different reason.

but what is mine?
where do i fit in?

if i'm not willing to pay for advertisements,
post 5 times a week,
link-up everyday,
and go crazy with social media,
will anyone still read my blog?

maybe i don't have content that matters to anyone else...
i don't post outfit pictures,
i don't post recipes,
i don't post DIY projects,
i don't post parenting tips...

so what do i have to offer?

all i have right now is my life:
which mostly consists of spending time with andrew when i can,
planning my wedding,
going to work (for the next 2 weeks at least),
and hanging out with people occasionally.

is that stuff interesting to anyone but me?
probably not.
maybe i don't have what it takes to "make it" in the blog world.
but i'm starting to realize that's okay...

it's okay if my follower count doesn't grow everyday.
it's okay if i'm not in a "clique" or i don't have a ton of "blog besties".
it's okay if i write about my life, because it's all that i know.
and you know why?

because i blog for me.
and whoever else feels like reading, i am more than happy to have you :)

and on that note, here is my weekend in a nutshell:

out with friends,
mcdonald's recovery meal,
treating myself to sparkly nails,
& a beautiful sunset.

not too shabby, right???

graduation festivities

this weekend literally flew by.
one second i was parking my car at the airport
and eagerly racing through security,
the next i was already back at my parked car
and reluctantly driving home.
how did that happen???

probably because it was jam-packed with great stuff...
i'll start at the beginning:

on friday, my man officially became a UGA grad!
he has worked so hard over the past 5 years,
and i could not be more proud of him.

plus, he knows how to rock a cap and gown ;)

on saturday, we had our last pre-marital counseling session,
and then a celebratory dinner with his family
to commemorate all the fun events of the weekend.
of course, we had to follow that up by going out with his friends
and drinking all the colored drinks we could find.

see? blue & green

on sunday, andrew had the sweetest idea to relive our first date
(which was almost exactly 2 years ago).
so we headed to cafe intermezzo in atlanta
...and i FORGOT to get a picture! *kicking myself*
but it was amazing nonetheless.

now i'm back in the real world,
and incredibly bummed, to say the least.

but i know that in a few short weeks,
he'll be home for good & we get to start our
crazy wedding summer extravaganza!
or CWSE, as it shall henceforth be known.

so i can't have too big of a self-pity party :)

did anyone else have a fun weekend???

sorry for neglecting you, blog

i'm sorry, blog, for neglecting you lately.
it's not that i want to,
it's just that i'm in a slump.

you see, i'm a busy girl...
and as much as i'd love to post everyday,
i love going to sleep early even more.

between working full-time,
planning a wedding,
managing a long-distance relationship,
and trying to actually have a life sometimes,
i may have put you on the backburner.

plus, it's been kind of nice outside lately,
and it can get distracting:

this lil guy was swimming around in our pool the other day, so...

anyways, i apologize from the bottom of my heart,
and i promise to try harder next week.

until then, can we still be friends?

warning: i like selfies

so sunday was cinco de mayo.
(did anyone know that?)
and i celebrated the way every girl should...
with sombreros, maracas, & mustaches.

oh, and a million selfies:

1) "i'm a totally normal person"
2) "obligatory marg pic!"
3) "from now on, please call me don juan"
4) "snapchat success"
5) "actresses without teeth, anybody?"
6) "i see you, baby"
7) "the demise of don juan"
8) "it's okay, i can still hang with the cool kids"
9) "nope, no i can't"'re welcome, world.

also, these ladies were with me:

and yes, i am wearing a different mustache in the second picture.

so there you have it.
a completely normal sunday,
followed by an even-worse-than-usual monday.

thyroid update

many moons ago
(yes, i did just say that)
i wrote about getting my thyroid killed.

since then, things have changed drastically for me...
but not entirely for the better.

i went through a period where not much had changed.
then i went through a (short & blissful) period where i felt normal.
then i started to fall into hypothyroidism,
and i pretty much let it overtake my life.

i didn't know what to expect
(i had been hyperthyroid for so long)
but the other side of the spectrum has been equally, if not more, exhausting.

physically, mentally, emotionally...
i'm just that - exhausted.

the physical symptoms include:
sensitivity to cold, fatigue, muscle pain, weight gain,
just to name a few.

the mental and emotional side of things is no walk in the park, either.
i've gotten pretty down on myself.
most days, i feel overwhelmed...
like i could cry at the drop of a hat.

however, this post wasn't meant to be one giant complaint,
because 1) that's no fun for anyone,
and 2) there are much worse things that people struggle with everyday.

...but also because - i have hope!
i went to the doctor on monday,
and she is starting me on medicine that should make me feel a lot better.

i've never been so happy to see pills in my life!

(that's not an exaggeration... i was ecstatic)

i've just been so tired for so long,
and i couldn't be more ready for a change.

here's to hoping this medicine works and i feel better real soon!

the time a dog sat on my face

if any of you follow me on twitter,
you may have seen this tweet on saturday...
and i feel like it deserves a little explanation:

basically, my sister and i decided to babysit on saturday night.
and the family has a large (like 150 lb) black lab.

well, i've made it know on here before, but i am not what people call a "dog person"...
so naturally, i was like STAY AWAY FROM ME, PLEASE.

anna, however thought the dog was "cute"
and called it over as soon as we had plopped all the boys on the couch for a movie.

what she didn't know is that it would leap into our laps,
i would scream at the top of my lungs,
i would try to burrow down into the couch,
and then this would happen:

the dog sat down on my face & head.
literally, it sat right down on me.

well, i was entirely traumatized,
but it was also one of the most hilarious things that has ever happened...
because who can ACTUALLY say that a giant dog has sat on their face???

this girl, that's who.

in the end, after i hid under a blanket for probably 30 minutes in recovery mode,
i was able to laugh about it (and tweet/text/blog about it),
so it wasn't a total failure of a situation...

but you can bet i will be taking precautions from now on
to ensure nothing like that ever happens again.

calling all nineties kids!

so apparently i'm only posting twice this week,
which is pretty lame.

BUT this post will make up for it, promise!

i have stumbled across the best nineties montage ever.
not kidding.

take a look/listen and i think you'll see what i mean: i right?!? sure makes me miss those days.

and with that, i hope you all have a wonderful, nineties-filled weekend :)

linking it up for #backthatazzup friday, of course!

my one true (female) love

sooo i meant to write this post yesterday,
but i was suffering from a terrible case of the mondays.
it included heartache, exhaustion, and ugliness... woohoo!

anyways, nobody cares about that so let's get right down to it.
i've recently found my soul mate...
my female soul mate that is.

her name is haley and we are basically twins in every way.
here is our story:

as i've mentioned before, i joined a women's bible study back in january. haley did too.
i'm not exactly sure how... (aka i facebook messaged her)
but we decided to meet for coffee one night.

from then on, it went a little something like this:
  • become obsessed with each other.
  • acknowledge that we're obsessed with each other.
  • introduce her to snapchat so we can send selfies all day every day.
  • her husband becomes increasingly scared of me.
  • decide that it's time for a double date.
  • force our men to take us out on the town.
  • live happily ever after.
  • oh, and naturally...
convince her to start a blog along the way so that we can constantly stalk each other.
go show her some love people!
in conclusion, here is a picture of my other true (male) love,
along with my cute doggies,
so that this post isn't entirely too weird:

happy tuesday, everybody!
