my first run

on saturday, i ventured outside for my first run in years.
almost 5 years, to be exact.

i had no idea what to expect...
would i die immediately?
would i be able to run for miles?

turns out, i was somewhere in between.

most awkward selfie i've ever posted...

basically, i started out feeling super excited and proud of myself,
and i ended up feeling pretty exhausted and unsure.

i forgot how hard running is! especially mentally.
it's all about pushing yourself, even when you don't want to.

so i'll get back out there tomorrow, or the next day,
and attempt to do it again (hopefully with fewer "walk breaks").

i did want to ask though,
what are you guys' favorite jams to run to???
a good song can give me the motivation to keep going,
so i need to build an incredible playlist.

help a sista out and let me know ;)

  1. I did 10 miles yesterday & it was a mental battle! I was inside so I watched a movie on my iPad. When I'm outside, I listen to music and my latest fave is "I Love It" by Icona Pop. I also LOVE "Anything Could Happen" by Elie Goulding. Great job! The running will get easier!

  3. Way to get back out there. I need to motivate myself to run more. The bad weather isn't helping!

  4. Way to get yourself motivated enough to head out the door! I am hoping that nicer weather will be more motivating to me to head out for some (very very short) runs!

  5. I am getting anxious for all the snow to melt here in MN so that I can get back to running outside. It's so much better than running on a tredmill. And definitely some PINK on the ipod!

  7. Getting back into running is definitely tough. I tried a year ago to get back into it. In high school I used to run 4 miles a day for several months and I played soccer for school and a club team as well. So I miss being in shape. Now I can barely run a mile without feeling like i want to keel over and die. I'm biking instead, 6 miles a day and it's been fantastic so far. It's a good substitute for me for running since I was having such a tough time of it.

Good luck though and keep on keeping on. You're starting which is more than some people.

    :)
I'm a new follower by the way, I love your blog!

  8. Good for you! Running is one of my goals for spring. I saw someone already wrote Icona Pop's 'I Don't Care, I Love It', that's a good one! I would also suggest Death Cab for Cutie's 'The Sound of Settling'..never gets old! I used to run to it all of the time
